ARCHITECTING A TEXTILE

Behind the craft and development.

We pour intention into all of our textiles: from feel, to texture, to pattern. A lot of our more playful designs are inspired by nature, past projects, and everyday materials. Discover the stories behind a few of our favorites.

While on a trip to Mexico, a floor of pagoda tiles caught our designers’ eyes. They found the tiles’ pattern would make interesting artwork and brought it to life on this linen shirt.

An arrangement of dried botanicals and reeds graces many of our shops and now our shirt with its design woven directly into the fabric.

Originally a punchy silk floral that debuted 25 years ago on the William Reid NYFW catwalk, we discovered that this pattern took on a camo-like appearance when we altered the colors to a neutral palette.

Our signature heirloom ribbon stripe can be found everywhere from our buttons to our liners, but this print drew inspiration from an image of our ribbon tossed into a pile.

While looking through our archives we discovered this wheat-like artwork that’s completely custom to us, and we thought that it was worth a revival.

Inspired by our California store openings our associate art director, Jacob, made a screenprint of a surfing lady. The team loved it so much we wove her directly into the jacquard of a shirt.
