PRESERVING THE SOUND OF NOLA

Ben Jaffe

Preservation Hall is a Nola institution, so when the creative director and member of its jazz band, Ben, invited us to go on a tour of his home studio, we couldn’t resist. Being a Louisiana native, Billy cherishes the famed jazz club. So it was an honor to catch up with the man behind it.

“I can see Ben’s genuine connection with people and his city in the way he styles a look. I hear it in his music and how the influences meld to make a distinctive sound.” —Billy

Since his parents managed the venue, Ben grew up around musicians and took in their style, “Their clothes were cared for and were lived in. Like when you put on an old jacket and the arm bends in just the right place—it gives me gratitude.”

As a long-time fan of the brand, we love to see how Ben styles our clothes. Past favorites include huge pant cuffs and tying two bandanas together to make a tie. Naturally we had to shoot him in a few of our Icons to see how he’d put his own spin on them.
